77 things I did in 2009

2009 was all about new things, new thoughts and new perspectives, but also a tough year full of work and waiving. I decided to merge my most important experiences in one list. This is what I’ve done this year:

  1. Turned 31
Suddenly I was 31 years old.
  2. Lived in Hamburg
Still loving die Elbe and walks by the harbour.
  3. Visited Spain twice
There is no place like mum and dad.
  4. Been on a plane more then 10 times a year
Despite the security-craze I still like the airports.
  5. Ate in more than 50 places
I don’t cook so I visited more than 50 restaurants around Germany (mainly Hamburg, Munich and Berlin) and Spain. Yummy!
  6. Watched a sunrise
More than once I got lost in the sun.
  7. Gone snorcheling
And survived contact with a fishmob at Costa Blanca.
  8. Started dreaming
In terms of climate, Germany is not the place to be.
  9. Started thinking about living in Alicante
My favorite Spanish town even has an unbelievable nightlife I discovered this year…
  10. Met interesting people
The world is huge, I like that.
  11. Discovered a tendency to procrastinate
Oops, and layed it ad acta mostly before new years eve.
  12. Have not called too often
While becoming more social I became less social: Being a creative onliner totally consumed me.
  13. Reconnected with an old friend
Still having too many on stock…
  14. Worked much
Let’s not talk about work-life-balance: I’m an artist, my work is my life.
  15. Stayed at home more often
My life has become increasingly digital - I created things most of my time.
  16. Did not get injured
Like I did in every single year before.
  17. Had a job
I have played my role at KMF Werbung for the 3rd year.
  18. Lived almost ecologically responsible
While opposing cars in the cities as unhealthy and vain, I embraced plane and taxi. Therefore ate and consumed as biologigally worthy as possible.
  19. Kept my style
My styling did not change much this year, it just got more expensive. I stuck to white, blue, grey and brown, dressed in Pepe Jeans, Hilfiger and Zara, wore Adidas and kept my hair short.
  20. Survived the financial crisis
Somehow managed to end the year in plus while building up ressources.
  21. Started accepting superficial people and extreme materialism
Also started not accepting crazy opinions. At least you can learn from everyone.
  22. Have grown more sceptic
Looking at the geopolitical and economic advancements of this century, I have become alert.
  23. Did not get vaccinated
I was not impressed by this year’s media flu. But I would have liked some days off, too.
  24. Laughed a little less
    Where have the endorphines gone?
  25. Learned a lesson
    …or two about life.
  26. Fixed a few holes in my life
But was not successful at some points. Good to know I have plenty of time left.
  27. Made my own rules
And stuck with them. Some people around were a little upset.
  28. Imposed self-discipline
    Way to go!
  29. Built a habit of reading one Wikipedia article a day
There never is spare time to push the horizon, so I consequently read the first article I stumbled upon that day in whole.
  30. Visited exhibitions
I attended business- and art-related exhibitions in Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf and Alicante.
  31. Was well prepared for christmas
I did not get late at gathering presents this year.
  32. Lost birthday to the flu
Caught a serious cold right before my (then cancelled) birthday.
  33. Lost it
when people screwed up a nice project, absorbing energy from my recent works.
  34. Swore less
I almost completely stopped to swear.
  35. Started collecting my statements
Simply to show them off at my website.
  36. Didn’t vote for a big party
And not for a big small party either.
  37. Bought a paper
‘Welt kompakt’ with qr-codes coming with the articles. But why take the detour?
  38. Continued to avoid tv
Seems like mainstream-media is totally screwed up.
  39. Watched Kings
Sadly, they never did a second season of Kings, series of the year.
  40. Fell in love with Rhianna
Umbrella is this years’s song, along with various remixes.
  41. Watched more video online
Not movies but documentations, talks and relevant things from entertainment to conspiracy, from quantum-mechanics to evolution and development.
  42. Broke with mp3
The soundtrack of my year was streamed by Frisky Radio - no more managing music in files.
  43. Saved my 1900th link
At Mister Wong I save all links I come across. This year I have been extremely disciplined with bookmarking.
  44. Still no iPhone
Instead I went back to the roots with a vintage Motorola.
  45. Updated my website
Now showing all my social activities in one realtime lifestream, featuring a player for my youtube favorites and multiple ways to connect.
  46. Relaunched humour
Being a netizen I migrated parts of my humour to Sefzig.net. Andreas Sefzig likes this.
  47. Wrote a whitepaper
I kind of miss writing papers. At least I co-authored one on (guess what) social media.
  48. Intentionally wrote English
I like English, so I wrote some posts in English to execute a Last Year’s resolution.
  49. Longed for the awards
With connecting brands, for whom I set up a tiny submission-page in javascript.
  50. Kept the rickrolls below 10
Always check links before clicking to prevent getting owned - in few I failed.
  51. Moved to the cloud with Microsoft
Windows Live Mesh synchronizes my files with the cloud, changing everything while changing nothing.
  52. Had my 3rd year with wordpress
The blogging-software Wordpress has become the cms for many of my projects.
  53. Tried Ruby on Rails
Used Rails to provide database-feeds to my javascript-applications. Didn’t dive deep though.
  54. Embraced jQuery
My first impression with jQuery last year has proven true: It is the best javascript library.
  55. Made friends with json
What an awesome way to completely seperate my javascripts from databases and dynamic code.
  56. Made a sound
Fooling around with javascript and hta, I got my laptops an entertainment-application with funny movie-excerps, cool expressions and music.
  57. Learned a new instrument
I have become skilled at djing with youtube.
  58. Welcomed new colleagues
5 new people have started to work in my team. Let’s roll!
  59. Relaunched the KMF Trendwork Blog
Maintaining and authoring just isn’t enough. My agencies blog now has a sweet design - and finally is social.
  60. Opened the KMF Web 2.0-Lexikon
Using our blogs cms, I opened our web 2.0-glossary to contribution and sharing.
  61. Automated programming
Since much of the daily work is doing things again, I built a sourcecode-generator which is in use for Messenger Web Services too.
  62. Evangelized for Microsoft
It’s fun to work for and with Microsoft.
  63. Made my second Windows Live-product
After Windows Live Contact Exporteur last year I conceived and programmed Windows Live Messenger für Kids, a downloadable yet web-based Messenger client for kids.
  64. Made my third Windows Live-product
Windows Live Messenger to.go is a sister project of Windows Live Messenger für Kids, aimed at people using usb-sticks.

Along with Windows Live Messenger für Kids and Windows Live Messenger to.go I developed an easy-to-brand-application for Microsofts and our partners, called ‘Messenger light’.

Quite a few Messenger light-clients have evolved this year: sueddeutsche.de, EAs Sims 3, orange Swiss, connecting brands and KMF.
  67. Started Speeddating
Literally: For Microsoft we developed the MSN Speeddating Lounge, an easy-to-brand lounge for people dating each other via Messenger. No marriage to announce yet, even though the NewYorker-branding was helpful.

Produced an interactive tutorial and many use-cases for the perfect Messenger web-controls by, now readied to be implemented by us as one of the first agencies in Germany.

  71. Set up a personal facebook page
Being always on in facebook, I also wanted my favorite news-sources to drip into my wall. Done this nicely with RSS Grafitti.
  72. Joined twitter
Tried it out and professionalized for my clients. I’m no real twitterer.
  73. Set up a twitter list
Started to like twitter for the lists - like my collection of unusual twitter-accounts.
  74. Conceived my first social media-campaign
Far more interesting than pure display-advertising: a campaign for the major german movie Männerherzen I conceived over several platforms like facebook, youtube, twitter, meinvz and ilove.
  75. Set up a professional facebook page
Lade Deine Freunde in den Messenger ein highlights Windows Live’s ability to import friends from facebook.
